Anti-aging is something that is sought after by many people. In the past, many anti-aging treatments have been created and marketed for women, however, there is now a growing market for anti-aging treatments for men. With companies such as agelessRx, Lifeforce, hone, wisp, and Maximus, accessibility to anti-aging drugs and compounds has become easier for men. Specific aging concerns in men that have been able to be treated are a decrease of testosterone, sexual dysfunction, weight loss, hair loss, aging skin, and overall increase of lifespan. Note that not all anti-aging treatments are FDA-approved as they have not been evaluated for efficacy and safety.
Hormone Replacement
Hormone replacement therapy in men is treated with testosterone, administered topically or via a small injection in either the shoulder or the outer thigh. Clomiphene citrate can also be used to treat hypogonadism, by encouraging the brain to release hormones to increase testosterone production. Anastrozole can also be used in men who have elevated levels of estrogen to balance testosterone levels.
Sexual Dysfunction
To treat sexual dysfunction in men, PDE5 inhibitors such as tadalafil, sildenafil, and vardenafil are used to treat erectile dysfunction. A combination of PDE5 inhibitors like tadalafil and vardenafil has also been shown to significantly improve sexual performance for men.
Weight Loss
Medications such as Ozempic (Semaglutide), Wegovy (Semaglutide), and Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) are injectable GLP-1 receptor antagonists that have been gaining popularity for their weight loss abilities. Another medication that has shown to aid in weight loss is metformin.
Hair Loss
Active ingredients that can help prevent hair loss in men include finasteride, dutasteride, minoxidil, and tretinoin. Finasteride and dutasteride block testosterone conversion to dihydrotestosterone. Minoxidil is a vasodilator, anti-inflammatory agent, and antiandrogen. Tretinoin promotes cell turnover, which has shown to be useful for the promotion of hair growth.
Aging Skin
To prevent and treat fine lines and wrinkles, ingredients such as tretinoin have been proven to be efficacious as a topical treatment. Tretinoin promotes the proliferation and turnover of cells. Hydroquinone cream can be used to treat dark spots on the face and the body.
Increasing Lifespan
Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+) is a hydrogen carrier for the cells which control hundreds of processes that are essential for life. NAD+ levels decline over time, and therefore when administered intranasally or via injection can help promote longevity. Rapamycin is a drug that has shown to increase lifespan in all of the organisms it has been tested on thus far.
